For Strange Loop 2014 (fyi not "Strangeloop") - we had an open contribution box with no suggested amount. We received contributions in the range of $5 - $500 but by far the most common contribution amounts were around $25, $50, and $100. We had 90 contributions (out of 1100 total attendees) for $5485. https://thestrangeloop.com/attendees/diversity-scholarships
The conference contributed $15,000 and a block of 95 tickets. We raised approximately $55,000 from corporate sponsors and a few non-attendee individuals. With our total funds of ~$74,000 we were able to cover needs for all 95 attendees (mixture of travel, hotel, and other accommodations).
