My install instruction for a secure Arch Linux (sway) laptop workstation

What's Cool

  • Encrypted root partition
    • AES-256 bit cipher
    • Argon2id variant for PBKDF
    • Sha3-512 bit hash
  • rEFInd bootloader
    • With dreary theme
    • Optimal Settings (optimized for aesthetics, and boot time)
  • Boot into backups thanks to refind-btrfs

Install Arch Linux using EFI and GRUB

Installing Arch linux with EFI

  1. Change keyboard layout:

    • loadkeys no
  2. Verify boot mode:

    • ls /sys/firmware/efi/efivars (If the directory exist your computer supports EFI)
  3. Ping some site on the Internet to verify connection:

  • ping archlinux.org

Problem

In Arch Linux mkinitcpio -p linux

shows

Possibly missing firmware for module: aic94xx
Possibly missing firmware for module: wd719x

An effcient method to install Arch Linux with encrypted root and swap filesystems and boot from UEFI. Multi-OS, and VirtualBox, UEFI-booting are also supported.
# OBJECTIVE: Install Arch Linux with encrypted root and swap filesystems and boot from UEFI.
# Note this encrypted installation method, while perfectly correct and highly secure, CANNOT support encrypted /boot and
# also CANNOT be subsequently converted to support an encrypted /boot!!! A CLEAN INSTALL will be required!
# Therefore, if you want to have an encrypted /boot or will want an encrypted /boot system at some point in the future,
# please ONLY follow my encrypted /boot installation guide, which lives here:

Install a minimal gnome setup and some more useful things
# Install Gnome and some other useful thins
# The official installation guide (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_Guide) contains a more verbose description.
# And based on https://wiki.archlinux.de/title/Anleitung_f%C3%BCr_Einsteiger
# I have just copied commands from https://wiki.archlinux.de/title/Anleitung_f%C3%BCr_Einsteiger#Weitere_notwendige_Dienste
# It's just to have it with one view after doing a [fresh installation](https://gist.github.com/thacoon/05d5a39606ab554455d6713e8a714b2c)
# Some useful services
