Myco is an accidental traveller to The City. His creator Stamets, an artificer, had become quite adept at the arcane arts via the use of technology and had begun experimenting with arcane power cores that could provide the energy needed to run sophisticated cognitive algorithms. After 46 tries he was confident the 47th would finally live up to his expectations for a truly self-aware and self-sustaining arcane android. Stamets was enamored with nature and ensuring that technological progress was made only in harmony with the surrounding environment. MYCOBOT-47 was to be the first true marriage of arcane technology and an inherent appreciation of nature and all living things.
Stamets walked into his lab to find his newly-forged mycobot chassis standing motionless in the center of the room. It's tall but sleek and slender frame shimmered beneath the whirling lights of arcane energy housed in the lab's arcane containment unit above. Ready to revolutionize the scientific community Stamets threw the switch! A huge conduit moved from its perpendicular position and became parallel with the connectors on either side, establishing the final conductive connection between Stamets' equipment and MYCOBOT-47. Arcane energy surged through the conduit and rippled through the bot's frame. A spherical core in the chest area shined brilliantly almost like a small star for a few moments before its intensity dropped to a dim but consistent glow. The sound of gears and small pistons began to fill the room as the bot slowly began to come to life. "Unit 47 online." It stated plainly in a low robotic voice.
Stamets' was filled with pride as he greeted his new creation. "Unit 47! It's nice to meet you!"
Just as MYCOBOT-47 was about to reply another mycobot identical to unit 47, clumsily entered the room. "Mr. Stamet--" the bot began as it proceeded to trip over a cart of various tools and parts. The cart fell into the wall and severed some kind of metallic coil that was anchored to one of Stamets' many other inventions or experiments. The coil snapped upward with a loud PING as it hit a glass panel and left a small crack. "Oh dear..."
The crack in the glass panel pinged again as it spidered through the rest of the pane. Stamets dove out of the lab as fast as he could and slammed the thick metallic door behind him just in time to hear the thunderous boom from the other side. The door and surrounding walls instantly bowed outward from the explosion. It took him hours but he finally managed to pry the warped door from its frame so he could peer inside. His entire lab was destroyed, but curious splotches of energy appeared to swirl in place all over the lab attached to surfaces. Small little discs almost like tiny energy portals sizzled on the walls, desks, ...everywhere! They each cracked and popped with untamed arcane energy. As Stamets took this all in he noticed a rather large disc of energy on the floor, right where MYCOBOT-47 had stood yet was now nowhere to be found. Stamets took one cautious step into the lab as the fizzing and popping turned to sputtering before beginning to wink out one by one; the smaller ones vanishing first and followed quickly by the slightly larger ones. The giant one on the floor also began to sputter and Stamets without anymore thought threw himself onto it only to crash into the floor as the final disc winked out of existence.
