The database can also be (re)created on the fly from inside this script:

This replaces https://gist.github.com/clupprich/0e8b816883ca4dac6b7632a9e8351c48#file-rails_single_file-rb-L19 because it also connects to the database.

Update:
We should also add config.hosts.clear to the Rails config to clear the hosts whitelist for the tests (maybe with a security comment).

If I try to do this with RSpec the route is not found. It seems to be using the right @controller, but I couldn't find a way to setup app as for Minitest is the example. Can this be used with RSpec somehow?

@thisismydesign I'd guess so. Maybe look at rspec-rails, especially the examples they set up. e.g. https://github.com/rspec/rspec-rails/blob/master/lib/rspec/rails/example/controller_example_group.rb
