Speaking to Mr. William Toh Chor Kok confirmed our belief that ‘love goes a long way in changing lives’. \n\nDuring his teenage years, Mr. Toh found himself in bad company, when he dabbled with drugs and became an addict soon after. He was apprehended by the police at the early age of 20 and found that the cycle of re-offending was immensely tough for him to break out of. As a result, he spent a total of 13 years in and out of drug rehabilitation centers.\n\nThe turning point for him was when he saw the enduring love of his family, leading to him questioning his identity and future. Daunting thoughts on whether he would be known as a mere “drug addict” all his life and whether or not “the cycle of re-offending would ever end” caused him to realise that he needed to set his priorities straight and pick up important values such as discipline and abstinence, so that he could better continue on his journey of reformation.\n\nHis journey of change was tough as it required him to make consistent and conscious decisions to do things that would help steer him on his journey of change. As a result of his determination, he was able to stand strong against the influences and become the person that he longed to become.\n\nToday, Mr. Toh spreads his love by volunteering with the Prison Fellowship Singapore, sharing with inmates how he had overcome his personal demons with the hope that they would be able to break out of the re-offending cycle too. During these sessions, he emphasises the need to believe and to hang on to love, as well as the importance for everyone to give their own self a second chance.\n\n#SpreadYRLove\n#SecondChancesEveryday","liked":true,"link":"https://www.facebook.com/yellowribbonproj/photos/a.10150172845056116.303698.321854601115/10153296018046116/?type=3","likes":106,"from":{"name":"Yellow Ribbon Project Singapore","id":"321854601115"},"image":"https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13010686_10153296018046116_6791463598392689172_n.jpg?oh=eb8d8db77250cfcd23bbef0cc8d2b9c9&oe=57CC7235","create_at":"2016-05-03T00:00:00+0000","id":"321854601115_10153296018046116","shares":22,"comments":6},{"body":"Oscar Wilde once said, “Keep love in your heart. One of the highlights is Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh, founded by ex-offender Jabez Tan. It was only when he turned 33 and saw himself in the mirror did he realise the damage he was doing to his own body and mind, as well as to the people around him. \n\nAlmost a decade later, Mr Chin is now drug-free, happily married with a three-year-old daughter. Having earned a diploma in counselling psychology, he has been working at the New Charis Mission for six years now, counselling at-risk youths in schools and former drug offenders. \nAnd he’s not stopping there; Mr Chin will begin a master’s degree in professional counselling August, so as to continue to help others with similar issues and problems with drugs.\n\nRead more here:","liked":true,"link":"http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/from-drug-addict-and-gangster-to-counsellor?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&link_time=1460344491#xtor=CS1-10&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social-media&utm_campaign=addtoany","likes":530,"from":{"name":"Yellow Ribbon Project Singapore","id":"321854601115"},"image":"https://external.xx.fbcdn.net/safe_image.php?d=AQDBaSp6FKjdVBL9&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.straitstimes.com%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fstyles%2Fx_large%2Fpublic%2Farticles%2F2016%2F04%2F11%2FST_20160411_NHJOHNNY11_2206267.jpg%3Fitok%3DFn0-Gh8J","create_at":"2016-04-21T00:00:00+0000","id":"321854601115_10153290261146116","shares":81,"comments":13},{"body":"Kkdkdk","liked":false,"image":"https://sps-yrp-us.s3.amazonaws.com/message_2016_04_16_22_06_30.png?Signature=0AGy9XJlU44degatgwHRPiPtdRU%3D&Expires=1463870913&AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAIIIW2XV6L7BAU43A","link":"http://localhost:8001/yrp/fb_message/11","likes":0,"id":"11","comments":0,"from":{"id":"953334434781472","name":"Jason Zeng"},"create_at":"2016-04-16T22:06:30+0000","shares":0,"local":true}] |
