Quirell is a work in progress (a bit before it's first alpha version) social network being worked on CollectQT (a queer trans collective). It's being worked on primarily by the members of CollectQT and also by various marginalized people who want to build a social network whose focus is meeting the needs of a diverse community. Diverse community in this case being exemplified by the fact that Quirell was founded by a Trans Woman of Color. Similar projects are Thurst and Trans Tech Social.
I started working on Quirell in response to Twitter's handling of Gamergate and the growth of blocking tools; Facebook's handling of "real names" and content they find "sexually offensive". Those issues disproportionately affect the communities I am a part of and Facebook / Twitter's handling of them was far from sufficient. Quirell is my answer to that, it's designed to address a market whose needs I feel nobody else meets the needs of sufficiently.
I'm also a full stack web developer with experience ranging from Neo4j / Postgres to Sass / AngularJS. I've laid all of the major groundwork for Quirell's code. I also do the majority of the organizing work, giving me what would essentially be VP Engineering experience if / when I build venture capital infrastructure around Quirell.
I've been working on Quirell for the past year with about $25,000 of funding for the entire team of three (and a few contractors). I'm great at using money for social impact in low income / marginalized communities and any money you give to me will go a lot farther than it would go otherwise. The results of my fundraiser efforts is present mainly via my own and CollectQT's patreon accounts, which you should consider giving to if you can!
I plan to have the first externally testable alpha (v0.2) up by the end of 2015. I would immediately start working towards the first beta (v0.3). There's a variety of front end (2FA, custom relationship creation) and backend (error handling, data modeling)
But the biggest issue I would like to tackle in early 2016 / prior to 1.0 is building up a sustainable funding model / long term development plan to ensure that work on Quirell can continue for at least the next year.
