Mod 0 Reflections

Remote Collaboration Reflection

You've now experienced several remote classes in Mod 0. We want you to take some time to reflect on the following questions.

  1. Reflect on your experience in Breakout Rooms - how well did you engage with other students in your group? Did you notice times when you may have talked over other students? Were there times others talked over you?
  • I feel like the breakout rooms from our Mod 0 Sessions have overall gone well. In general, it wasn't my experience that anyone talked over anyone else intentionally, and very rarely did it happen accidentally. Most of us were trying to make sure we understood what was being asked of us, and then the next step was to work with our teams in the breakout rooms to make sure we were all on the same page. Overall I'd say they were helpful because I've gottent to actually meet people in the class and put faces to names.
  1. Reflect on your experiences communicating via Slack - what has been challenging about this format of communcation? What wins have you experienced so far with using Slack as a communication tool?
  • Personally, I have a lot of experience with Slack as a tool, having used it in my current job for the past 3 years, and used it prior to that. In my personal experience, Slack can be challenging when you have notification overload, or are involved in so many conversations at once that it can be hard to manage. In regards to the Turing Slack - I've been able to DM classmates outside of class time and chat with other people who are in very similar positions and experience levels as I am. I'd say that's been a big win, as its also helped me start to get to know my classmates better. :)

Time Management Reflection

Pull up the calendar you created for Mod 0 and use it to reflect on the following questions.

  1. How well have you stuck to the schedule/calendar you created? What has worked well so far?
  • Overall, I've kept up OK with the calendar. I have honored hard due dates to the best of my ability, and tried to be kind to myself when I haven't quite made the time I expected I would. For example, some nights we have had unexpected errands or chores, and those nights I know that my study time or my work time is just going to have to be pushed back. It happens. I try my best to honor the schedule I created, but with understanding that stuff happens, and I need to try to be adaptable as much as I can help it.
  1. What areas of your calendar need to be adjusted for the remainder of Mod 0? What lessons have you learned that will help you in Mod 1 as it relates to time management?
  • Areas of my calendar that need to be adjusted: right now, literally, it's add in more time slots on the calendar to work on Mod 1 Prework. I've also had to move around a few personal/non Turing related events to try and make proper time to study for the Mod 0 Assessment.
  • A lesson I've learned to help in Mod 1 with Time management is to create a checklist of "To Do" items on my plate, and tier these items based upon date, urgency, priority, etc. These steps help me keep on track as much as possible by completing the mandatory tasks for the day, and seeing how easily I can work ahead.
  1. How is your overall progress in completing the Mod 1 Prework?
  • Overall - not as far as I'd like to be. I'm struggling to find time in the day right now while working a full-time job on top of Mod 0. I certainly will NOT be working by the time Mod 1 starts. I'm currently midway through the second section of the pre-work. I know I will get it done before it's due date, because I have to.
