Find out what to post about — the last-30-days setup (free, by @buildwith.conrad)

🆓 Find out what to post about — the last-30-days setup

You don't need more content ideas. You need to know what already worked in your niche this month — what people actually upvoted, watched and argued about. This setup makes Claude read the last 30 days of Reddit, YouTube, Hacker News and GitHub for you and rank it by real engagement. Free, open source (MIT), no API key needed to start. The tool is last30days by mvanhorn — I just tested it and wrote down what it really does. Given away free by @buildwith.conrad.

What I measured (09 Sep 2026, my own machine, no key, no account): one question — "AI video tools" — came back in 73 seconds with 44 findings from 5 sources: 7 YouTube videos (4,232,181 views between them, with the top comments), 12 Reddit threads (6,660 upvotes), 12 Hacker News stories, 8 GitHub repos. Numbers, not vibes.

Step 1 — Install (one line)

Claude Code (recommended — updates itself):

/plugin marketplace add mvanhorn/last30days-skill
/plugin install last30days

Cursor, Codex, Copilot, Gemini CLI or any Agent-Skills host:

npx skills add mvanhorn/last30days-skill -g

No terminal at all? The repo's README has a claude.ai-web install path under "Install". Same tool, no command line.

Step 2 — Ask it like a creator

The skill has a built-in creator register — it phrases the brief for content people, not analysts. Type this in Claude:

/last30days what's working in [your niche] --register creator

Real examples that work:

/last30days AI video tools --register creator
/last30days instagram reels for local businesses --register creator
/last30days what small business owners complain about with chatbots

What comes back: a ranked list of what people actually engaged with — each item with its numbers (upvotes / views / comments), the source link, and the most-liked comment underneath. Then Claude writes you a short brief. Read the brief, then open the two or three items with the biggest numbers. That's your next post.

Step 3 — Make it a weekly habit (the part that compounds)

Monday, before you plan anything:

  1. Run /last30days [your niche] --register creator
  2. Note the top 3 items and why people reacted (read the top comments — the objections are gold)
  3. Make one post that answers the biggest objection you found

Do that four Mondays in a row and you have a month of posts grounded in evidence, not in brainstorming.

Honest limits (so you don't blame yourself when it happens)

  • Without your own keys, some sources stay empty. Reddit, Hacker News, GitHub and YouTube worked for me with zero setup. The general web search returned 0 results without a key. X/Twitter and TikTok need the setup wizard (the tool walks you through it the first time you run it).
  • Rate limits are real. In one of my three runs Reddit answered HTTP 429. The tool tells you when that happens instead of hiding it — just run it again a minute later.
  • Transcripts are hit-and-miss. Only 2 of 7 YouTube transcripts came through in my run (yt-dlp got rate-limited). The views, titles and top comments still arrived. If transcripts matter to you: brew upgrade yt-dlp before running.
  • --quick is too quick for marketing topics. My first quick run on "instagram reels growth" returned 6 hits, two of them course-piracy subreddits. Use the full run (no --quick) — that's the one that works.
  • It researches. It doesn't write your post. Good.

What you need

  • Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or the claude.ai web app
  • Node.js and Python 3 on your machine (the CLI hosts need them; the web path doesn't)
  • Nothing to pay for. 0 €.
