Zettelkasten

What you need

  • a way to link notes together;
  • a citation management system;
  • a way to write and edit notes;
  • an index of notes;
  • you should add it to your study / writing workflow;

Kinds of notes

  • Fleeting notes quick scribbles supposed to be deleted in 1 on 2 days
  • Permanent notes fleeting notes are supposed to become permanent notes. You should expand your ideas, by criticizing and developing arguments. It should be written it as if you were trying to expose your ideas to someone else.
  • Project notes anything goes! It becomes a citation or a permanent note when the project is done, depending on how it’s published.
  • Literature notes notes about stuff you've read. Short and use your own words.

General Info

You should be able to make notes based on (somewhat) atomic ideas. Notes should form a tree, and it's achieved by linking them together. Only the root notes should appear in the index — you can create new roots when it becomes its own thing.

Apparently you’re supposed to create “relationships” between notes in horizontal proximity who aren’t siblings. -> It’s not clear how!
