- What brought you here to Turing and this new career?
- I was uncertain of what to do. I thought architecture was something I was interested in enought to pursue. Turns out architecture sucks. My friend, Julian had always told me to try out coding. And now, here we are.
- What lenses or identities do you view the world through most often?
- Possible examples: gender, ethnicity, family, birthplace, culture, parental status, etc.
- All of them. Depends on the situation, place, time, etc... Most of the time, I try not to view the world through any lense though. Start from scratch and accept things as they come. Adapt yourself so that you can empathize and understand where someone is coming from even if you have no idea what that feels like.
- What are the values that drive you?
- Hard-working but smart work. Acceptance. Vulnerability. Humility. Kindness. Calmness.
- How do you think you demonstrate those values to people around you?
- By actually performing these values and a willingness to change when something needs changing. Not being stubborn.
- Could other people indentify your values form your actions/words/presence? Why or why not?
- ask them. I think sometimes. But every person comes in with a different lense and perspective. One person may think differently than another. I try not to get wrapped up in how people percieve me as long as I believe wholeheartedly that I'm sticking to my beliefs and values. In the end, some people are going to like you and some people aren't.
Build on your professional story by thinking about how you're progressing at Turing. Answer the questions below in your own gist to use your StrengthsFinder themes to add to your story:
- Look at your initial StrengthsFinder reflection that you completed in week 1 -- how have your perceptions of the top 5 themes stayed the same? How have they changed?
- I would say most have stayed the same. I feel like most of those themes have stayed true for a large chunk of my life
- How are you different today than when you first started at Turing? How are you stronger now than on day 1? How have you struggled?
- I'm not different. other than I now have a new skillset. Not to say that this skillset will not change who I am as a person, but it hasn't done that yet.
- Considering how you describe these themes, how do you want others to see you as you continue to progress through Turing?
- I do in fact want people to see me in these regards, because I want people to expect themselves to be held to a standard when they work with me or ask me for help, or I ask for help.
- Even though your Turing story isn't finished yet, what do you envision for your development in future mods? How will this story end?
- I feel like I'm going to be moving a bit more quickly with conceptually difficult material and I'll be able to help people that aren't. While the design and more hands-on material, I migth need help from people
- I also see this story ending in a much more satisfied work life. For the longest time, what has kept me sane and happy is what I did outside of the work I was doing. And I hope that I will be able to balance that out more
- Finally, write a draft of your story here. This is a short paragraph, 4-6 sentences, describing who you are, why you came to Turing, and what you hope to accomplish while you're here:
If you want to know me, you won't read this story. You'll speak to me face-to-face and confront both of our differences and similiarities. You'll listen intently and won't distract yourself with miscellaneous things while I'm speaking to you personally. If you do decide that you MUST read this story first, I'll give you one short tale. I am who I am. I always have been that. More than likely, I came to Turing for a similar reason as someone else. That said, I can gurantee that no one's story is exactly the same and the only way you can understand, truly, where I came from is to listen.
