We have a custom rolled solution - TFS builds nuget packages config all automatically transformed and MSDeploy is used for the actual deploy. We have a simple site with the status of all the packages which can be deployed from there. We also have status message update channels on our IRC server where deployments can also be triggered from.     This is a similar approach to redgate/octupus I believe which we rejected on pricing and also I did not like having the Tentacle software running on our live environments.    I would be interested in the results of your survey and all the different types of processes people have so any updates to [email protected] would be awesome."

When we deploy we create scaling groups tagged with the package name and version and any instance created within the group grabs its tags and locates the appropriate package on AWS S3, downloads it and runs the payload. This installs the service / web package during deployment/scale-out. On average doing this takes about 10-20 seconds after VM boot. our biggest issue is windows server boot times under AWS, most of that time seems to be contacting the KMS for a license....."
