My Grandfather Time
As a kid I used to grow up beside a very stubborn and an amazing grandfather. During WW2, he was around 10, and that’s when he started as a blacksmith apprentice, he became an amazing blacksmith, and we still have his workshop and tools, and as a kid during 90s i couldn’t be more greatfull for having access to all of that, and support of an amazing craftssman.
One very unique thing he did is that he would never change time on his watch during daylight time saving. I remember asking him why he does that, and the answer was that he didn’t want to put his watch under stress when manually changing it, so he would rather just let it be, and save his watch from the pain of adjusting it. Maybe there was something more, but I would never know.
As a consequence of that, it was so funny actually, people around him were always confused when someone asks about time. Because there was always a sense of “My Grandfather Time” and “Real Time”. Also if he would ask you about time, we had always to reply in non DST time.
And as a kid, i remember always having to reprocess what time is it, when I would ask or reply to my grandfather about the time.
Why i am writing this, is because i also love wearing watches aswell, a bit more technically savvy these days, and they are now called smart watches. But to protect my privacy and just have a basic watch, i usually don’t have watch companion apps on my phone or pc. And as you could guess daylight saving is not implemented in this watch, as it syncs mostly with host to maintain accurate time. So here i am today, since October 25. i still have not changed time on my watch, and this just striked me this morning, so much that i had a blast from the past.
So for the last few days I had “My Grandfather time” on my watch, and it felt good.
Have a nice day, and thanks for tuning in, also excuse me if I missed some meeting this days.
