Environmental Performance Agency kicks off 2018 campaign to nominate Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) for US EPA Science Advisory Board

The Environmental Performance Agency’s Department of Weedy Affairs officially kicks off its 2018 campaign for the nomination of Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) to the US EPA Science Advisory Board at 2pm on June 15, 2018 at Transformer, 1404 P Street, NW, Washington DC.

Following a short ‘meet the candidate walk,’ to the US EPA offices at Federal Triangle, Mugwort and its Department of Weedy Affairs colleagues will make a public presentation, including the delivery of comments collected from Mugwort’s constituency.

As an experienced Rhizome Biologist, Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) has a multi-pronged root system that can address a range of regulatory rollbacks at the US Environmental Protection Agency. “Mugwort has a proven record for fighting and not giving up and will go deep to find new territories and new perspectives for the challenges facing the US EPA right now,” says EPA Agent Andrea Haenggi.

Among the items in Mugwort’s platform is strong opposition to Scott Pruitt’s recently proposed rule “Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science.” Despite the deceptively benign title, this new rule will prevent vital public research from being conducted by US EPA officials, weaken the role of science in the development of environmental policy, and open the door for corporate and private interests to conduct misleading research that will have severe consequences.

“As the only multi-species nominee for US EPA Advisory Board, Mugwort stands in solidarity on behalf of all life to imagine a world beyond human,” says EPA Agent Ellie Irons.

Meet the candidate and join the entire EPA team for an afternoon of embodied action, reflection and a public show of gratitude to current US EPA employees.

The Environmental Performance Agency (EPA) is an artist collective founded in 2017 by Catherine Grau, Andrea Haenggi, Ellie Irons, and Christopher Kennedy.

The Department of Weedy Affairs, an arm of the Environmental Performance Agency, currently has an office at Transformer Gallery in Washington DC.

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) is a spontaneous urban plant (aka weed) that spreads rhizomatically, thrives in disturbed landscapes, and has a long history of entanglement with humans.

The US EPA is a federal agency tasked with the protection of multispecies health and well being.
