<p>
Our outreach teams are out at night and into the early morning, looking for
people sleeping rough to help them away from the streets. Our priority is
always to get people into safe accommodation.
</p>
<p>
People who have slept rough might find it hard to trust others because of
negative experiences. At St Mungo's we gradually build up trust and get to
know people individually. Working together with the people we support; we
find the best route out of homelessness and towards recovery for them.
</p>
<p>
Last year, our outreach teams supported over 7,000 people, offering them
support, helping them into accommodation and helping them make their first
steps towards rebuilding their lives away from the streets.

<p>
We believe that people can – and do – recover from the issues that cause
homelessness, and a safe and stable living environment is central to this
recovery.
</p>
<p>
We operate a range of accommodation services, from basic shelters or
hostels, through to supported and semi-independent housing, to help people
at every stage of their recovery from homelessness. But our accommodation is
much more than bricks and mortar. Alongside having somewhere safe and secure
to stay, our staff and volunteers work with our clients to understand their
hopes and ambitions, helping them to take the steps they need to in order to
achieve these.

<p>
Our work doesn't stop with accommodation, we want to work with our clients
to make sure they can achieve their ambitions and rebuild their lives.
</p>
<p>
At St Mungo's Recovery College, we offer a range of courses to suit the
diversity of our clients. Many of our clients have low literacy levels or
learning difficulties, so we start with the basics – offering classes on
literacy and numeracy through our Basic Skills team.
</p>
<p>
We then work with clients to build a sustained recovery, progressing from
basic skills to more vocational training, such as learning trade or
administrative skills. The ultimate aim is to get clients back into
employment, which helps them build confidence and independence. Our close
links with partners across a number of sectors help clients into meaningful,
paid employment.

<h1>Health services</h1>
<img

<p>
Rough sleeping is harmful and dangerous. The average life expectancy for a
man sleeping rough is 45 and 43 for a woman.
</p>
<p>
Our role is to provide environments and services that both protect and
promote health and wellbeing. We support our clients to improve their
health, to access the services they need, and to enable clients to better
manage their health conditions by helping people to be healthy, facilitating
access to early treatment where needed, and ensuring that any treatment
provided is the right treatment that works for them.
</p>
<p>
We empower our clients to build the relationships and connections that they
need, so they can use those relationships and services to improve their
health and wellbeing, sustain accommodation and build a community around
them for the long term.

<h1>Pets welcome</h1>
<img

<p>
We all have hard days. Days when we want to close the curtains, stay in bed
and cancel any plans we might have made. But when you have someone relying
on you - someone who needs feeding, walking and attention - it's much easier
to stay motivated.
</p>
<p>
At St Mungo's we recognise that a pet can be a source of comfort and
protection for someone sleeping on the streets. Many people are forced to
choose between shelter and their companion, and this means many people sleep
in dangerous conditions so they are not separated.
</p>
<p>
This is why we're one of the only charities to accept pets in our hostels
where we can. So we can keep best friends together and start rebuilding 2
lives.
