Hackers and Painters. Paul Graham--thanks to the essays in collecte in this book--is in large part responsible for the emergence of frat-boy programmer culture, but there's a lot to think about here. The problem is that it can nurture hubristic tendencies in those attracted to the hero culture the predominates the tech world. I am tempted to say that this fundamentally is a cargo-cult problem, as the great cannot help but do something, whereas people who aspire to such greatness think that if the sleep under the desks, they will be transmuted into Andy Hertzfeld--if only they knew who the fuck Andy Hertzfeld is.
