Problem

Installing mysql2 gem errors on MacOS Mojave.

Solution

Make sure openssl is installed on Mac via Homebrew.

Stop the MySQL Service

I'm using Homebrew to stop the service

brew services stop mysql

Locate MySQL Data Directory
