Introduction to Arduino

In this lesson we will learn about using Javascript to interact with hardware. We will be using a platform called Node.js which runs Javascript outside of the browser.

What is an Arduino?

Arduino is a tool for making computers that can sense and control more of the physical world than your desktop computer. It's an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple microcontroller board, and a development environment for writing software for the board. arduino.cc

Basic Circuitry

Node.js is a platform built on Chrome's JavaScript runtime for easily building fast, scalable network applications. Node.js uses an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model that makes it lightweight and efficient, perfect for data-intensive real-time applications that run across distributed devices. nodejs.org

A new user's guide to SublimeText 2. Estimated reading time: 2 mins. Estimated workthrough time: 12 minutes.

Make it useful

  • Install Package Control. For SublimeText 2, paste the following in Terminal:
import urllib2,os; pf='Package Control.sublime-package'; ipp = sublime.installed_packages_path(); os.makedirs( ipp ) if not os.path.exists(ipp) else None; urllib2.install_opener( urllib2.build_opener( urllib2.ProxyHandler( ))); open( os.path.join( ipp, pf), 'wb' ).write( urllib2.urlopen( 'http://sublime.wbond.net/' +pf.replace( ' ','%20' )).read()); print( 'Please restart Sublime Text to finish installation')

From here on out, use Package Control to install everything. +Shift+P, then type Install to get a list of installable packages you can 'livesearch through. After installing plugins, they should be running.

Companies Recruiting at Silicon Milkroundabout (12th May 2013) By Technology Stack

Silicon Milkroundabout doesn't breakdown companies by what they're hiring for so it makes it hard for say Python developers to find companies hiring for Python. So I made this list which organizes them by what technologies they're hiring for to help solve that problem.

Based upon looking at the websites of the individual companies, about a third of the websites didn't have enough information to figure out what the companies were hiring for so I haven't included them here. Feel free to send me any corrections to [email protected]

Multi-Stack

(Companies that are looking for good developers without specific requirements as to technology stack, i.e. open to hiring people from a variety of language/stack backgrounds)

Set the iTerm tab title to the current directory, not full path.
# put this in your .bash_profile
if [ $ITERM_SESSION_ID ]; then
export PROMPT_COMMAND='echo -ne "\033];${PWD##*/}\007"; ':"$PROMPT_COMMAND";
fi
# Piece-by-Piece Explanation:
# the if condition makes sure we only screw with $PROMPT_COMMAND if we're in an iTerm environment
# iTerm happens to give each session a unique $ITERM_SESSION_ID we can use, $ITERM_PROFILE is an option too
# the $PROMPT_COMMAND environment variable is executed every time a command is run

a silly script to write in your github timeline
/**
* so here the thing ... you go in your github page

* you open your console
* you copy and paste this shit
* then you write and execute in the console
* write("Hi There!");
