Unzip.php - Unzip zip file on the web server faster (see first comment for usage)

It can be a real pain to upload a directory with many small files to a web server. Uploading a unzipped Wordpress distribution can already cost more than 10 minutes before done. Well with this script you can minimize the effort. What do you need to do?

  1. Use your favorite ftp program (like fireftp) and create a folder "unzipper", it will work with any folder name, but this keeps it convenient.
  2. Create a file in this directory and call it "unzip.php".
  3. Copy the code below into this file and save it.

Now you are ready to go.

  1. Copy your large zip file to this directory
  2. Open the url to the unzipper (www.yourdomain.com/unzipper/unzip.php)
  3. Select the file you just uploaded
  4. Press the unzip button and wait for the message to come.

Done. Now you can easily move the files with your ftp program to another directory, which is going very fast.
