PostgreSQL command line cheatsheet

PSQL

Magic words:

psql -U postgres

Some interesting flags (to see all, use -h or --help depending on your psql version):

  • -E: will describe the underlaying queries of the \ commands (cool for learning!)
  • -l: psql will list all databases and then exit (useful if the user you connect with doesn't has a default database, like at AWS RDS)

Redis Best Practices

Some of the Redis best practices content has moved

This content from this markdown file has moved a new, happier home where it can serve more people. Please check it out : https://docs.microsoft.com/azure/azure-cache-for-redis/cache-best-practices.

NOTE: Client specific guidance listed below is still valid and should still be considered. I will update this document once all content has been moved.

Parallel processing with ordered output in Go
/*
Parallel processing with ordered output in Go
(you can use this pattern by importing https://github.com/MarianoGappa/parseq)
This example implementation is useful when the following 3 conditions are true:
1) the rate of input is higher than the rate of output on the system (i.e. it queues up)
2) the processing of input can be parallelised, and overall throughput increases by doing so
3) the order of output of the system needs to respect order of input
- if 1 is false, KISS!

A node.js SPA server that serves static files and an index.html file for all other routes.
/*
Incredibly simple Node.js and Express application server for serving static assets.
DON'T USE THIS IN PRODUCTION!
It is meant for learning purposes only. This server is not optimized for performance,
and is missing key features such as error pages, compression, and caching.
For production, I recommend using an application framework that supports server-side rendering,
such as Next.js. https://nextjs.org

Using my Canon 70D DSLR camera as a web cam on Linux

You'll need:

  1. Video 4 Linux loopback device kernel module (v4l2loopback) - Source: https://github.com/umlaeute/v4l2loopback (You might find builds in your distro's repos - I'm using Fedora so had to build it myself using https://github.com/danielkza/v4l2loopback-fedora/)
  2. gPhoto2 - this is what allows you to access your cameras live feed over USB - this was available in Fedora's repos.
  3. GStreamer or ffmpeg - this is what lets you stream the output from gPhoto2 into the loopback device.

It's been a little while since I set it all up so I can't remember all of the installation details, which will probably be different for your distro anyway unless you're using Fedora. Apologies if I have forgotten something as wel.

Running the stream
