Hi Georgina,
It's great to have a potential sponsor interested, we're always excited when people want to back our project. Student robotics is an exciting robotics competition for sixth formers that takes place across many parts of europe. We have branches in Bristol, Southampton, Munich and Grenoble with the majority of the competitors coming from the Southampton and Bristol areas. We go to the participating schools on a weekly basis to mentor them in the construction of their robots, giving them help will all kinds of technical issues from programming to electronics.
The Bristol branch is currently looking for sponsorship for mentoring transport back and forth to cheltenham and poole on a regular basis, based on the fact that the union can only provide us with a limited budget to get people around. We currently have 10 university students involved at the moment, and are looking to expand heavily in the coming year, as we have more than doubled the number of schools involved at the bristol branch.
This year we worked with just over 200 sixth formers in total, with around 50 of those coming from Bristol. In the coming year we are expecting this number to increase to around 300.
Over the past year the bristol branch of student robotics had a very low running cost, in the order of under a hundred points. This was due to the fact that our mentors were able to walk to all of the schools. This year we want to send a team of 2 mentors back and forth to both cheltenham and poole every week, which will increase our running costs significantly.
In terms of sponsor promotion we have a number of posters that we distribute to schools. A website on which we can place a logo as well as doing a number of talks throughout the year to both technical and general public audiences.
Student Robotics currently has a couple of sponsors and we would have to ensure that any sponsorship is compatible with our existing sponsors before we can accept it. In order to verify this we'd love to have a meeting with any potential sponsors to talk more about what we do and share ideas.
Thanks
Sam Phippen
