garden

Tend to your garden

  • This was the culminating day for my gardening project phase 1. I finished de-weeding an important section of the garden. This area has been very problematic for me. Every now and then wehn I got the time, I pick out the weeds from this area. But a few weeks after -- the weeds come back as sure as day. I do not want a chemical based solution to get rid of the weeds. I have kids running around and I don't want to expose them to chemicals. So I researched this thing and found a better solution. The idea is you cover the ground with a barrier -- a natural one using newspapers or cardboard. Then cover the barrier with mulch to hold it down. God, doing this with the kids is so satisfying. I feel I accomplished a lot and did something worth my time during the weekend. I love it.

  • There's a lot of stuff to be done in the backyard. I think it will keep me busy for the rest of the autumn season. I have trees to prune, I have ground to clear, lay the barrier, and finally cover it with mulch. I would imagine it will look awesome once I finish. It's a process that I'm willing to go through just to make things better. Helping the garden will help myself and my family as well. It will breathe new life in our place.

  • My mind was set to finish the project and I did. But the first thing I did when I woke up was to pickup my yoga mat and did a quick 15-minute yoga practice. It was very energising for the time spent doing it.

  • Lunch break came and it was time to do a little bit more shopping as we ran out of mulch quickly. That small patch of ground consumed eight bags of black-dyed mulch. This hobby is getting expensive by the minute. I guess if it helps me out to get de-stress I'm all for it. Plus, the kids are enjoying it too.

  • So during lunch time we went to buy more mulch, but before that we passed by the car wash. It was Lara's first time to go through an automatic carwash. The siblings had fun while inside the car. I'm glad I brought them with me.

  • We also passed by the library, brought home some books of our fancy. I borrowed a gardening book, Lara got some kids books and a cookbook about smoked meats, Erin got an interior design book. I got mama a Jamie Oliver cookbook. Everybody is happy.

  • We went back home to have lunch and got back to work right after that. I finished my goal two hours later. It's so satisfying. Felt accomplished and tired but not sleepy tired. I felt tired and energetic. This hobby keeps on giving.

  • Then we went to church and had a little snack. Loved it! When we got back home I put on Babe on Netflix because the kids haven't watched the classic movie. I'm happy they enjoyed it as well.

Now the weekend is winding down I'm ready for another work week.

Plans for tomorrow

Tomorrow's a Monday. Oh I remember I have lunch scheduled with Ton. It will be exciting because we'll be eating Mexican food. It's been a while since I last saw Ton. I just want to catch up and see how's everything with him.

I want to wake up early tommorrow so I could do one or all of these things:

  • Do a short yoga session

  • Start a 15 minute kettlebell routine

  • 2 sets of burpees -- I should be wearing footwear when doing burpees so not to injur my foot again

I still have some huge task ahead of me. But I think this time they're doable but it just takes time because of the sheer magnitude of the task. I'm not complaining I did a lot last week and plan to power through my tasks again this week.

When I get home -- I hope mama won't be in the kitchen so I could do a little bit of apple pie. I hate sharing kitchen. When I'm making my pie -- I don't want anybody else there in the kitchen hanging around -- yes, including mama.
