Daily scrum

What I did yesterday?

  • Mostly daddy stuff: I woke up early to drop of my wife to work, prepared my kids to come with me to the little one's class which is in my wife's workplace as well. Helped the eldest shop for her backpack -- paid with her own money. Lunch was a bit iffy because we don't know where to eat and everybody's hungry but eventually we sorted it out.

  • Had an awesome siesta when we got home. When we woke up, it's time for church.

  • After church, we received an invite to hang out at a friends house. We don't have to cook at home, we went straight there. Great conversation over wine. It couldn't be more perfect. We arrived late and slept even later.

What I did today?

  • Woke up late because we stayed up late.

  • We had the appetite to go shopping so we hit the outlet store around noon time, we picked new school shoes for the middle. She loves her new shoes. It's a bit tricky to shop for this one because she doesn't really like shopping. She wants cheap but nice shoes -- her comfort comes first before style. I'm glad we found the perfect shoe for her even before she got tired of the whole process.

  • I scored new shoes as well, slip on from Vans -- yes it's like a melon and checkered. It's rad! Got it for a very cheap price. I also scored a blue Superdry shirt that will replace my favourite blue printed shirt that I have for years and years now. I am quite amazed how our shopping behaviour really changed since we are actively saving for a home deposit. We are very price conscious and we don't go crazy when shopping. We only get what we really need these days.

  • We did a little bit of chores by doing grocery shopping for the coming week. Took out the trash because you can't really skip this one.

  • Finally, took out my wife for a few rounds of brisk walking around the neighbourhood so that we could talk about life. Stop and re-focus on the things that matters to us.

What am I looking forward to?

  • December we filed our for our Australian Citizenship application, it's been two months and we haven't got any reply from them. I'm concerned. But I do expect that in the coming weeks there will be movement in our application process. I will make it happen. I really want that Australian passport so if we travel around the world, there would be no hassle for us, no visas, faster queues, happiness!

  • We're actively saving up for our home deposit. Of course to fuel our first ever house purchase here in Melbourne, Australia. Owning our first home will finally cement our roots here. This is where we call home now.

  • On a lighter side, I am looking forward to be finally hands on with my kids in their studies. I found an interesting resource Excel it's called and they have review materials for each grade level covering maths, science, reading, and writing. Although I'm not too concerned about my kids' reading skills because they love books but they do need some asistance with their maths, writing, and science.

Background tasks

  • Early in the year I said I am to begin our budget. I did well last January. This Feb, I started strong but failing towards the end. It's not a good sign but I have to continue doing it.

  • Yoga. Same thing -- January was awesome. Feb was meh.

  • Running. I just started this again this Feb. I am doing it but not consistently yet. So probably another Meh.

  • Piano. January I did a few exercises. Feb, what exercises? I did zero. Damn. I failed miserably on this one.

I just think I over estimated myself this Feb. I can't do a lot of things all at the same time. The action for the coming month would be pair down the goals I have for myself. Only the most important ones. Three at the maximum. No more.

Also, I started writing again. This is really helpful for me. Now, eventhough I don't see any value in pushing out all the stuff that's in my head to the public. I know that this exercise serves a purpose for me. Which in itself is good.
