Christoph :speech_balloon: 2 months ago Control the perspective of time for the system. I had a bug once that only seemed to happen at weird ass times like 3 in the morning. It was a startup where they had these walkie talkie Motorola phones. I thought at first they were cool AF. Turns out they were a leash. If something was supposed to happen at a certain time, I wanted a way to verify that it did. That startup got wiped out of existence when Microsoft and Apple both decided to build their own versions of their “big idea.” For my next startup I built a publishing framework called Spew that could dynamically structure pages of content. It was synced with flash and video comedy content as well as 24 hour streaming radio. I built in a sort of feature flag but more like a time override. How does the page look when Marc Maron’s Morning Sedition show is on? Pass in the time flag and there it was. That startup was Comedy World. Fucked Company called it the 3rd worst dot bomb of all time. Their business model was idiotic. My publishing framework was cool AF IMNSHO. One day a bunch of armed security guards told us we had one hour to get out of the building. I had two giant bookshelves full of O’Reilly books. The C Suite fucks voted themselves $100,000 bonuses, forgave the CEO’s quarter of a million dollar loan and then blew up the company. This is why y’all know me now. Personally, I think I got the better end of the stick getting a chance to work with all of you.
