Francy's Prework

Day 1

Chapters 1 and 2 of HTML and CSS: Design and Build Websites

1. On a website, what is the purpose of HTML code?

  • HTML code is used to describe the structure of a webpage.

2. What is the difference between an element and a tag?

  • Element and tag are used interchangeably. The element comprises the opening tag, closing tag, and the content that lies between them. Tags tell you something about the information between their opening and closing tags.

3. Why do we use attributes in HTML elements?

Francy's Career Development Prework

1. *The 3 behaviors that resonate with me are number 8- Say, "I don't know.", number 11- Take responsibility for your mistakes, and number 16- Absorb massive criticism with ease. Both number 8 and number 11 are big ones for me because they embody the idea of focusing on your locus of contorl. Having worked in education, this is something I have been working on for years. Identifying what I have control over and what I know compared to what I can't control or what I don't know, is important for me in terms of where I am expending my energy and how efficiently I accomplish work. Knowing when to ask for help and how to handle my mistakes, has allowed me to have the greatest impact and I plan to continue applying these behaviors to my work as a developer. The third one that resonated with me is number 16. This is a behavior that doesn't come easy for me, but one that I continue to practice. I love feedback, but at times I do find myself taking things personally. Recog

Francy and Ben's Idea Box DTR Memo

Project: Idea Box

Group Member Names: Ben Porter and Francy Lang

Project Expectations: What does each group member hope to get out of this project?

  • Use time productively, work on creating baby functions one at a time. Do the best that we can and each be able to articulate our way through the final code.

Goals and expectations:

  • To be more patient with ourselves and focus on what we have done and less about what we haven't or what we could have done better.

fl-Strengths and Storytelling Reflection

Strengths & Storytelling Reflection

Write 1-2 paragraphs about your StrengthsFinder themes: How have you seen yourself using these strengths at Turing? Has your understanding of these strengths changed since you first reflected on them? If so, how?

  • I am a problem solver that is energized by the journey of ignorance to confidence. My instinct to persevere allows me to move forward through mistakes and through life's distractions. At Turing, I find that my desire to learn and my discipline serve me very well. I experience struggle on a daily basis, but my discipline and love for learning help me to maintain progress and productivity through the discomfort of the unknown. My understanding of my strengths has created more awareness around how I can contribute to a team and engage in a rigorous environment. It also gives me a toolbox to draw from when facing adversity.

Write a story about your Turing experience so far: When have you struggled? How have you dealt with struggle? When have you succeeded

Mod 1 Gearup Takeaways

Growth Mindset

Digging into the meaning of effort and difficulty was an excellent way to start mod 1 at Turing. It was good to reflect on my own growth mindset before embarking on a journey that would inevitably result in discomfort. I've really embraced the idea of getting comfortable with the uncomfortable and accepting where I am now. Understanding that struggle is a part of the process and setting my focus on what I can control is essential to continuously increasing my effectiveness and progressing as a developer.

Learn to Pair

Collaboration is a key part of programming, and effective collaboration is an essential skill in most industries. Initiating a pairing with a DTR helps build rapport and establish norms prior to engaging in a collaborative work, helps to create an environment grounded in mutual respect and mutual purpose.

Working with Introverts, Extroverts, and Ambiverts

As an introvert, I often feel that our society shines a much brighter light on extrove

Feedback II Reflection

  • Date of feedback conversation: Early September

  • How did you prepare for the conversation?

    • I reflected on the ups and downs of our pairing. It was good to process everything before I paired for feedback. This helped me to clarify my thoughts and identify facts without judgement. I was prepared to enter the conversation with mutual purpose and clarity of thought. I focused on being explicit while maintaining compassion and minfdulness.
  • How did the conversation go for you? What was easy about the conversation? What was more difficult?

Feedback III Reflection

  • What are you doing well as a pair programmer and collaborator?

    • I am focusing on how to leverage my strengths. I maintain self-awareness in collaboration and always ground myself in a specifc objective. This helps me to maintain composure. If I can consistently reference the goal, I use guiding questions to focus conversations and do what is best for the "team".
  • How do you use your strengths as a team member?

    • I try to maintain organization, focus on the positive, and embrace the process of struggle and discomfort that somes along with problem solving unknown errors and concepts. I work hard and ensure that I am always present and prepared. I like to motivate others and create a dynamic that allows for vulnerability. I want to bring some comfort to the constant state of discomfort we all find ourselves in.
  • How would you like to continue to develop your strengths?

  • I would like to continue to be motivating, hardworking, and collaborative. I enjoy the process of c
