if we first look at the retention curve, from day 0 all the way to day 20-ish, which represents the full time that we've had the new data collecction onboarding up. Based on all actions, we can see that even on the first or second day, the number of people who come back and retain on our platform drops precipitously to about 20%, and only tapers off from there.
splitting it out by cohort, we see the same. Each set of numbers from left to right is a retention curve.
graphs of the percentage of users who performed actions in sequential order, mainly looking at actions 1 & 2 as they represent > 90% of the actions
- for hackathon cohorts only: ~50% of this cohort are joining hackathons
- for grants cohorts only: ~80% of this cohort are making grant contributions
- for all hackathon selectors: ~50% of this cohort are joining hackathons
- for all grant selectors: ~25% of this cohort are making grant contributions
- overall, 12% are joining hacks, and 20% are making grant contributions
- overall 1-2 week retention is not great, users are not returning to our platform
- for every 1k users, we're only truly retaining about 1/10 of them.
- based on the product onboarding cohorts, they are coming to the platform and performing actions beyond login engagements, but we still are seeing dropoff. They come to the platform and perform singular actions that are product related (the numbers could be higher > 50% for all cohorts would be ideal), but many eventually drop off, perhaps due to the cyclical nature of grant and hackathon rounds eventually ending.
