- Red Mars Trilogy (hardish sci-fi).
- Wool trilogy (fluffier but fun sci-fi).
- The Golem and the Jinni (magical realism).
- Halfway through Diaspora, is excellent but dense.
- Sword of Truth series is my go to fantasy suggestion. Haven't read it in a couple years though. Not a dark comedy.
- Anything by Gillian Flynn (e.g. Sharp Objects)
- Planet of the Apes
- Gateway is a great sci-fi series: http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-Heechee-Saga-Frederik-Pohl/dp/0345475836
- "The Last Policeman" Trilogy was fantastic: http://www.amazon.com/The-Last-Policeman-A-Novel/dp/1594746745
- "Forge of God" by Greg Bear. Not bad.
- Anything by Paolo Bacigalupi - "The Windup Girl" or "Pump Six" are good.
- Any of Discworld for dark comedy.
- Larry Correira’s Monster Hunter International; liking it so far. Read his Into The Storm and loved it.
- Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson [I like it so far- Gabe]
