Important KoldskålsConf 2015 Announcement

TLDR; due to my fault the excitement about the KoldskålsConf did not last long, and as one of the initiators I really do not know where we stand with this thing; so I guess it is better to cancel it.

Hi, I am Martin, and I am the guy who started the talk about doing a conference about a Danish dessert called Koldskål and weird tech; KoldskålsConf—a Danish/Copenhagen pendant to the legendary bay area conference called TacoConf.

But mistakes were made and they were made by me.

The concept had a ton of excitement in the beginning, but I did not manage to keep that excitement going. Excitement about a thing like this is important, because it was supposed to be organized in a way where everyone who wanted to help out could help out, and make it an actual thing.

Another mistake I made was not to state a clear definition, or vision, of the event. That made it hard to find speakers, because nobody knew what kind of talks would fit in; and I guess we set the bar pretty high with the first speaker we landed—an expert on cryptography who wanted to talk about fully homomorphic encryption—I got the sense that other potential speakers got a bit scared by potentially having to follow the sheer epicness of that one.

If I have learned one thing from organizing and running meet ups during the past year has to be that one has to be upfront with changes in the program, and especially when it comes to cancellations. Better do them in good time ahead than waiting until the supposed day of the event.

So I guess I have to own my mistakes, and go ahead and cancel the KoldskålsConf right now.

The takeaways from all this is to; one: keep it so small that you can handle on your own if needed be, and two: excite people and try to keep at least the core group excited all the way through.

I guess I have go and work on my charisma, and thanks to the people who helped out organizing for a while: Thanks Ole for the awesome logo, thanks to the speakers who wanted to give a talk (Christian and Ed), and thanks to Kevin who helped out with the website that I never really completed (sorry about that one as well).

We could do a hackathon or something this Saturday if anyone are interested. I do not have any plans that day. Please get in contact.

Martin
