2017-03-30 08:00:56 gmacdougall Good day. Did you have time for the SolidusConf blog interview now?
2017-03-30 08:14:17 alexstoick Hey
2017-03-30 08:14:25 alexstoick How much time you think it’s gonna take?
2017-03-30 08:14:32 alexstoick i have about 1h
2017-03-30 08:14:46 gmacdougall Most of the previous ones have been 20-30 minutes
2017-03-30 08:14:50 alexstoick ok
2017-03-30 08:14:53 gmacdougall It depends on how fast you can type :)
2017-03-30 08:14:56 alexstoick yep
2017-03-30 08:14:58 alexstoick
2017-03-30 08:15:08 alexstoick pretty confident in my typing skills
2017-03-30 08:15:16 gmacdougall Shall we get started then?
2017-03-30 08:15:37 alexstoick yep :+1:
2017-03-30 08:16:04 gmacdougall First, could you give us all an introduction to yourself?
2017-03-30 08:17:45 alexstoick I’m Alex, a backend developer at Lostmy.name. I worked here for just under 3 years now, while studying towards my Computer Science degree from King’s College London.
2017-03-30 08:18:15 gmacdougall How long have you been working with Spree / Solidus?
2017-03-30 08:18:56 alexstoick I’ve had my introduction to Spree a few days after I started, so that would make it close to 3 years.
2017-03-30 08:19:23 gmacdougall What sort of work do you do on a daily basis?
2017-03-30 08:21:45 alexstoick Over time I have done a bit of everything: fixing Spree/Solidus bugs, launching new products, developing external APIs. However, most of the time I work deep into the depths of Solidus, trying to work out why our system is not behaving correctly, or how we can tap into new optimisations made available in latest patches.
2017-03-30 08:22:25 gmacdougall I imagine you have some fun / terrible stories there...
2017-03-30 08:26:33 gmacdougall Could you give us an overview of what you're going to be speaking about at SolidusConf this year?
2017-03-30 08:28:52 alexstoick I’ll speak about some of the issues we had in the past about global shipping and how we tackled them - shipping from 10 different places with loads of ways to ship things is not something that _just works_. To make things even more complicated, we also have customisable products, so I’ll dip into that a bit, and try to show how we managed that complexity and how we now have a streamlined process for launching new products.
2017-03-30 08:30:10 gmacdougall That should be interesting. I'm looking forward to it.
2017-03-30 08:30:22 alexstoick _still need to write talk_
2017-03-30 08:30:22 gmacdougall What else are you looking forward to at the conference?
2017-03-30 08:31:10 alexstoick I quite liked the hack days last year; and also being around people that are using Solidus/Spree and understanding their love/hate relationship is great!
2017-03-30 08:32:17 gmacdougall Glad to hear it.
2017-03-30 08:32:58 gmacdougall Is there anything that you would recommend for the non-London locals who are coming to town? What is something they should consider doing when not at the conference?
2017-03-30 08:36:34 alexstoick Not being a London-local myself for too long; I’d definitely recommend walking in some of the parks, if _the weather_ is permitting! Also, taking the `river boat` can be quite nice
2017-03-30 08:37:26 gmacdougall That sounds fun.
2017-03-30 08:37:34 gmacdougall Is there anything else that you wanted to mention before we wrap up?
2017-03-30 08:38:05 alexstoick Really looking forward to the conference and seeing what everyone else is doing with Solidus!!
2017-03-30 08:38:11 alexstoick Glad to have you guys in London :+1:
2017-03-30 08:38:32 gmacdougall Excellent. Thanks for your time today.
