   <content type="html" xml:base="http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/01/21/cop-a-plea-riverside-man-charged-with-impersonating-an-officer-for-2nd-time/"><strong>RIVERSIDE (CBS) &#8212;</strong> A Riverside man previously charged with impersonating a peace officer has allegedly been back on patrol, a police lieutenant said Friday.

Derek Alan Bash, 25, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of illegally possessing a firearm and impersonating a police officer, according to Lt. Victor Williams.

Bash allegedly posed as a Riverside police officer in the past.

Williams said residents of a Canyon Crest neighborhood reported being contacted by a man representing himself as a police investigator.

The man had asked about recent crimes in the area, but residents suspected he was not an officer, police said.

Based on witness statements, detectives decided to question Bash, who has a previous arrest for police impersonation, said Williams. In that case, the suspect, who was allegedly wearing a Riverside County sheriff's deputy's uniform and carrying a handgun, stopped and questioned a Riverside resident on Van Buren Boulevard.

The Aug. 2, 2010, encounter resulted in a misdemeanor charge of impersonating a police officer against Bash, who is slated to appear for a hearing in the case next month.

Tuesday's incident occurred in the area of Trafalgar Avenue and Big Horn Drive, according to Williams.

He said detectives later searched Bash's residence in the 2200 block of Trafalgar Ave., seizing numerous items of police paraphernalia, several firearms and a small quantity of drugs.

Bash's 28-year-old brother, Scott, was also arrested during the investigation on suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside and released on his own recognizance a few hours later.
