The session's proceedings were started by Rowan, giving an overview of the IEEE 802.11a/g specifications. A good summery slide helped introduce the subject, clearly splitting the presentation between the two standards, while leading on from the previous presentation on 802.11b.
However the text of the slides was rendered unreadable, thanks to the small font and very low contrast blue on blue colors.
In contrast to the previous set of slides, Emem chose to use a very basic, yet striking and clear, black on white format. The diagrams used were large and took precedence over the text which was usually shown later, with a thumbnail view of the diagram.
Emem's presentation style, while informal, was well suited to the atmosphere of student led seminars. While Emem spoke quickly, he also spoke clearly.
This style also suited the progression of the explanations used in the presentation: simple explanations of complected mathematics, starting with the basics.
Thirdly Tom Blount presented on the newer IEEE 802.11n wireless standard, continuing on from the previous presentation on 802.11a/g.
A well paced presentation with a good, detailed summery. Some good presentation techniques including a transition from physical to conceptual diagram to help explain MIMO.
Tom did not delve into the mathematics behind the physical layer.
The final presentation, WiMAX, was presented by Kunjian Song. Overall a good discussion over the topic, going into some detail on the finer points. However his fast pace, crowded slides and unexplained acronyms rendered the presentation very difficult to process. Despite this fast pace the presentation overran, possibly because of repeated excursions to the white-board to help explain some of the slides.
