I would like mentoring for many reasons. I have not been an active job seeker for many years. Having a second voice in that process will be refreshing and focusing. But more importantly, having a mentor in this process will be incredibly beneficial to keep my head right throughout my search. I will most likely be dealing with some rejection and that is never fun. It would be incredibly useful to have someone remind me that I am not an imposter, but rather, a software developer.
How will you hold yourself accountable to balancing time for your job search and following your mentor and group's advice?
I have bookmarked my Google calendar to keep a closer eye on it. I have added chrome timekeeping extensions to keep myself honest to the times I have set aside for job search and prep. I also want to bring in a growth mindset to the search and follow and utilize the advice given to me.
What is the focus of your job search (timeline, ideal job, steps you’ve already taken)? Be as specific as you can.
My goal is to get the right job, not the first job. My focus is to fully take advantage of Mod 4 at Turing. My deadline to get a job is a bit nebulous. I am much more concerned with understanding every concept in the classroom. That being said, I have blocked out time every day to work towards employment. In the mornings, I would like to spend time over the next two weeks work in cycles. Every three days, I will search for jobs on the first day, write cover letters for jobs that interest me on the second, revise and submit my application on the third. My hope is that I will refine this process and start send many more applications after this cycle.
