#lmms on BoL vol.2 results
23:40 < grejppi> facepalming sO HARD at best of lmms vol 2 results
23:40 < curlymorphic> Ive not looked yet, where did you come?
23:41 < grejppi> there are multiple tracks from a single artist
23:41 < fundamental> grejppi: where are the results?
23:41 < grejppi> fundamental:
https://www.facebook.com/makefreemusic/posts/902602873129237
23:42 < grejppi> and
https://plus.google.com/u/0/113001340835122723950/posts/bDRAjWDmSsp?cfem=1
23:44 < fundamental> that's pretty abnormal for this sort of competition to
allow for multiple entries
23:44 < curlymorphic> yeah, I think the rules said 2 entries
23:46 < grejppi> true, two entries were allowed from each person
23:47 < grejppi> with the intention that only the one that scores better will
be taken into account
23:48 < curlymorphic> that would have given better results
23:48 < grejppi> yes, and that was done with vol 1
23:51 -!- nucular_ [~nucular@unaffiliated/nucular] has joined #lmms
23:51 < Jernemies> I was wondering where were the results, thanks for the link
23:51 -!- nucular [~nucular@unaffiliated/nucular] has quit [Disconnected by
services]
23:51 -!- nucular_ is now known as nucular
23:52 < grejppi> I wonder who is responsible for this disaster
23:53 < grejppi> Jernemies: how were the judges chosen?
23:53 < umcaruje> I know who is
23:54 < umcaruje> Stian chose the judges IIRC
23:54 < Jernemies> I sent an e-mail to the judges group
23:54 < Jernemies> Stian chose us, we gave scores, and voted for what we wanted
in
23:54 * umcaruje facepalms
23:54 < grejppi> so... did stian organize vol 2?
23:54 < Jernemies> I believe Stian also compiled the final results, although I
don't know if any other judges were involved in that
23:55 < umcaruje> Well stian wanted to do vol2
23:55 < umcaruje> and all of us previous judges (mainly me and SP) said that we
wouldn't judge
23:55 < umcaruje> since we wanted to send our own stuff in
23:56 < Jernemies> I'm honestly disappointed
23:56 < grejppi> ^
23:56 < umcaruje> ^
23:56 < Jernemies> I'm not sure how he handled the scores we gave. Last I
looked at my judging sheet, all the vote-checkboxes are
suddenly checked, when I originally had like 12 votes
23:56 < Jernemies> I scored 35
23:57 < umcaruje> Ok so the last year BoL was done so much better
23:57 < grejppi> where's consumer protection
23:57 < umcaruje> So last year it went on like this:
23:58 < umcaruje> Each judge picked 5 songs he likes
23:58 < umcaruje> two judges couldn't pick the same song
23:58 < umcaruje> nor two songs by the same artist
23:59 < umcaruje> and then after the 30 songs were chosen
23:59 < Jernemies> We were supposed to give scores to 35 songs, and vote for
some (I'm not sure if 35 or x/35). I'm not even sure how
many votes we were supposed to give: I wasn't that well
informed, and had to ask about the amount
23:59 < umcaruje> each judge rated each song
23:59 < grejppi> and stian's method appears to be just naïvely sorting by score
23:59 < umcaruje> in 2 categories: sound design and originallity
23:59 < umcaruje> and then we did averages for every song in a sheet
--- Day changed Mon Apr 27 2015
00:00 < umcaruje> the lower 5 songs became honorable mentions
00:00 < umcaruje> and the other 25 went to the album
00:00 < Jernemies> So what I did was giving scores to 35 (good and bad) songs,
and voting for what I wanted to see in
00:00 < Jernemies> At least the sound design and originality was right
00:00 < Jernemies> Can't say that for much else
00:00 < umcaruje> meh
00:01 < Jernemies> Though in all fairness, there were over 100 songs entered
00:01 < umcaruje> very dissapointed
00:01 < umcaruje> Last year there were 86
00:01 < grejppi> seriously I'm about to demand review
00:01 < grejppi> anyone care to join me?
00:01 < Jernemies> Go for it
00:01 < umcaruje> I demand it too
00:01 < Jernemies> I'm behind you: I was a judge, but this is atrocious
00:02 < umcaruje> and I'm like the guy that started BoL (no self promo, just
facts)
00:02 < Jernemies> Not because of the results, but also because I'm not sure
how my scores and votes were actually handled. If it turns
out a track I gave 1/6 ended up on the album with my help...
well
00:03 < Jernemies> Not hating Stian, I just think he could have done a lot
better
00:03 < grejppi> yes, this could have turned out so much fairer with evan's
method
00:03 < umcaruje> yeah
00:05 < grejppi> should I post the log of this discussion to the fb page
maybe...?
00:05 < Jernemies> Do that
00:05 < umcaruje> Yeah do it
00:05 < grejppi> okay, will do
00:14 < grejppi> done
00:16 < Wallacoloo> Where can I listen to the BoL v2 entries?
00:16 < fundamental> Wallacoloo:
https://soundcloud.com/groups/the-best-of-lmms-competition-v2
00:17 < Wallacoloo> fundamental thanks!
00:18 < grejppi> I believe stian had the best intentions, but the results just
aren't fair
00:18 < Jernemies> There were a lot better entries than some of what got on the
list... but I guess/hope that it was at least with the help
of other judges
00:19 < umcaruje> yeah
00:19 < Jernemies> "Ok by me, though I'm a bit stumped that Greippi - Penguin
Machine ended up at #56 O_o. It was my #2 overall xD." -
quote by Fastigium, thought I'd share that
00:20 < Jernemies> Doesn't help the gnawing feeling in my spine that our votes
were handled in an entirely unpredictable manner
00:20 < umcaruje> can I see the full list?
00:20 < umcaruje> if that wouldn't be a problem
00:21 < Wallacoloo> There are some really great songs on this soundcloud! It
blows my mind what some people can pull off with a **free**
DAW like LMMS :)
00:21 < Jernemies> Oh, so there IS a full sheet
00:21 < umcaruje> If you want I could trade the sheet from Bolv1 with this one
;)
00:21 < Jernemies> pmed it to you, I don't know how secret that is
00:21 < Jernemies> So I won't drop it on the channel :D I'm judge #3, or that
was my sheet name at least
00:22 < fundamental> I'd assume you wouldn't want to tell the person who got
last that theirs was voted worst
00:22 < Jernemies> true
00:23 < fundamental> I mean plenty of the pieces need considerable work, but
I'd imagine this is supposed to be a friendly competition
00:24 < Jernemies> Kinda true, though even friendly competitions are mostly
based on the idea that it is fair
00:24 < Jernemies> That's kinda the hot topic here :D
