Installing tmux-256color for macOS

Installing tmux-256color for macOS

  • macOS 10.15.5
  • tmux 3.1b

macOS has ncurses version 5.7 which does not ship the terminfo description for tmux. There're two ways that can help you to solve this problem.

The Fast Blazing Solution

Instead of tmux-256color, use screen-256color which comes with system. Place this command into ~/.tmux.conf or ~/.config/tmux/tmux.conf(for version 3.1 and later):

# Luke's config for the Zoomer Shell
# Enable colors and change prompt:
autoload -U colors && colors
PS1="%B%{$fg[red]%}[%{$fg[yellow]%}%n%{$fg[green]%}@%{$fg[blue]%}%M %{$fg[magenta]%}%~%{$fg[red]%}]%{$reset_color%}$%b "
# History in cache directory:
HISTSIZE=10000
SAVEHIST=10000
HISTFILE=~/.cache/zsh/history

use Apple Keychain to store GPG Passphrases

gpg-agent setup

Need to setup gpg-agent first, on OSX I use keychain (it also does ssh-agent)

$ brew info keychain
keychain: stable 2.8.5
User-friendly front-end to ssh-agent(1)

/usr/local/Cellar/keychain/2.8.5 (7 files, 108.5KB) *

Installing and creating Emulators with AVDMANAGER (For Continuous Integration Server or Local Use)

Install and Create Emulators using AVDMANAGER and SDKMANAGER

TL;DR

For an emulator that mimics a Pixel 5 Device with Google APIs and ARM architecture (for an M1/M2 Macbook):

  1. List All System Images Available for Download: sdkmanager --list | grep system-images

  2. Download Image: sdkmanager --install "system-images;android-30;google_atd;arm64-v8a"

Falsehoods programmers believe about time, in a single list

Falsehoods programmers believe about time

This is a compiled list of falsehoods programmers tend to believe about working with time.

Don't re-invent a date time library yourself. If you think you understand everything about time, you're probably doing it wrong.

Falsehoods

  • There are always 24 hours in a day.
  • February is always 28 days long.
  • Any 24-hour period will always begin and end in the same day (or week, or month).
