For those looking at this wondering why it may not be working... the first line of code is no good.
var myAnnouncementText = document.getElementById('myAnnouncement').value();
Last line of code
clientContext.executeQueryAsync(onQuerySucceeded, onQueryFailed);
should be ctx not clientContext.
