- today's web is mostly linking and loose quoting
- i want to:
- track my path
- link to specific passages of articles
- jot down notes on entire articles or specific passages in them
- comment in-line (i.e. multi-user notes with context directly along the comment), whole-piece comments should still contain exact links (see above) to the parts they comment about
- link to articles as they appeared when read (still allowing updated articles, but with credibility and accountability for those edits)
- share, favourite and discuss as we do now
- consuming news
- is worse:
- checking all the pages by hand is tedious
- rss exists but it's not enough and/or is not supported:
- http://news.ycombinator.com (too many, filter needed and unique upvoting, comments etc.)
- http://twitter.com (doesn't support rss for own feed)
- comics (QC, homestuck) are sometimes availlable via rss, but it's not quite appropriate
- http://tumblr.com supports rss, but following, hearting and reblogging is unique to it (also, it's often hard to find the source of a reblog, API better?)
- does rss support tags and/or categories and if so, do sites export their tags in the rss?
- better is possible, but:
- stealing ad revenue from hearted sites is not what I want (i.e. I am okay, with only getting the links and reading on the individual sites; but still want liking etc. working across the board)
- is worse:
