1000 1040 Business Tom Goodwin Leadership through change, 10 themes to explore the possibilities of the future, now Today, Tom will explore 10 themes that capture the spirit of the modern world, the threats and the opportunities. Based in years of quantitive and qualitative study, he’ll explore themes like the pervasive internet which means the digital divide disappears, to the new realities and canvases of VR and AR to a future world of personalization, voice interactions, predictive computing and advertising that builds to form stories. This is a must see talk for marketers, technologists and business leaders to understand change in context, to see the distractions from the profound, the opportunities from the threats and to provide positive leadership for all through out fast changing times.
1000 1040 Development Tomas Della Vedova What if I told you that HTTP can be fast? A plain HTTP server can handle about 25k request per second, while Express and Hapi, can serve respectively up to 8k and 2k request per second. About a year ago we started a journey with a goal in mind, build the fastest HTTP framework for Nodejs. So Fastify was born, and it can reach and surpass the crazy result of 20k requests per second. How can Fastify be so fast? In this talk, we will analyze the tools and the techniques we used to optimize it, the cost of abstractions, optimizations and deoptimizations, and the libraries you can use to analyze your code. Furthermore, we will discuss some goodness we give to the user out of the box, such as a plugin system that handles encapsulation and inheritance, enabling a microservices ready ecosystem. What are you waiting? In the time you read this abstract we have already served 600k requests!
1000 1040 Design Sagit Siegal What Language Does Your Product Really Speak? When English is a Second Language and its Effect on User Experience. How great is the impact on performance when the user interface is not in the user’s native language? At Thomson Reuters, they found that non-native English speakers encounter difficulties using English interfaces. These difficulties are expressed as usage patterns such as skipping or ignoring features, free interpretation, and more. In the course of their research, they identified language-related usability issues and adapted these solutions for our global products. Sagit will share their findings, possible causes of problems, and solutions that you can implement immediately to improve your users’ experience.
1000 1040 Development Jiří Riedl Microservices architecture Everyone’s talking, writing, and arguing about microservices. Do you need them? Do you understand what they bring to you and more importantly, what will happen to you? Can you design them well and maintain them? Jiří will look at how to kill a promising startup with exaggerated conference attendance and by following cool news (i.e. crumbling software into a microservice, which will then become a distributed monolith) and conversely, how to bury a long-standing business just because of sloths who are afraid to bring in the shovels.
1100 1140 Design Erika Hall Beyond Measure Site analytics. The quantified self. Big data. We can track, measure, and store more than ever before. This is naturally exciting to designers and technologists who want to make better informed decisions. But more data doesn’t necessarily create more meaning, and might even make it harder to see what matters. Human experience does not reduce to an engineering problem and what we can’t count still counts in an increasingly quantified world.
1100 1140 Development Juho Vepsäläinen Case SurviveJS - Bootstrapping a personal lifestyle business Building your own personal business can be a life-changing event. That is exactly what happened to Juho. In this talk, he'll describe his journey on how he bootstrapped a personal lifestyle business. Business like this has been designed to support the lifestyle you want without forgetting your personal values. The challenge is that going this route will force you to grow and change as a person but it can be rewarding as well. The purpose of the talk is to help you understand what going this route requires.
1100 1140 Business Jan Kalianko Marketing automation, or why aren't you doing this yet Here’s the basic rule: “Anything you have to do more than once - automate.” This not only applies to websites, but actually to many things on websites that you no longer have to do today and there’s no relevant reason not to start immediately. We are always hunting for search engine rankings, web usability, and who know what else. But who looks after the visitors and customers who are already loyal or have already purchased? Almost no one…This talk is intended for e-shops, magazines, and personal or corporate websites. It will be an inspiration for owners, directors, and marketers, and a guide for product managers and programmers. A small inspiring look into the future, so make sure to come.
1100 1140 Development Balazs Kutil Using Hacking as a Service (HaaS) Hacking as a Service, where you cooperate with white-hats to identify your weaknesses before the black-hats attack, is new to central Europe. At Showmax, we are cooperating with the HackerOne initiative. We’ll share our experiences with you, positive and negative, so you can decide if “Hacking as a Service” is right for you and your organization.
1200 1240 Development Hans Boef Building (cognitive) apps powered by Watson Talk will be about the different Watson Api's with examples and guidance on how to use them in your app.
