How to Fix Google Chrome Update Failed (error 11) Issue on Mac OSX

If you've tried to update your Google Chrome and the update failed because of the error 11 issue, Then here's a simple and easy solution that'll let you update your Google Chrome again and fix the issue once & for all.

First try fixing with the following instructions on this page: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/111996?hl=en&rd=1

If it fails, try below:

1. Close Google Chrome.
2. Open Terminal window and fire the following command:

$ sudo rm -rf /Library/Google && sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Google

3. Open Google Chrome and It'll show a yellow bar on top which would have a button to turn on the automatic updates, press that and it'll ask for password to enter, once you're done with that. You can now go to the about page of the browser and it'll automatically start the update process.

What this does is, It simply removes all the Google Software Updater files which due to whatever reasons could've gotten corrupt or having issues with the automatic updater.

Works. But I can get it to screw up again just by telling it to auto-update. Therefore do this and don't tell it to auto-update afterward.

Confirmed to work on Chrome version 48.0.2564.103 (64-bit).

Working on Chrome v 46.0.2490.86 (64-bit).

If I turn on “Auto update for every users.” error11 will come back

@megabitsenmzq and others - I faced the same issue at work but not at home. So it seems to me that if your are in a protected network (like work or corp) you will get this error. It will update and show the new version but it will also show the error message. Just get out of the network and try and probably you'll see the relaunch button.

I disabled GoogleSoftwareUpdateAgent in startup list and it worked for me.

In general, removing the folders may not fix the issues for all users. Instead, we recommend trying the latest Google Software Update version and also checking the firewall settings that may be blocking updates.

i updated software updater
i restarted mac
i killed a chicken
AboutChrome still yields error 11
