Setting up Nginx, uWSGI & Python3
======================================
Setting up Nginx, uWSGI and Python3
======================================
First off, I'm traditionally a PHP developer, but am looking at moving across to Python. I really struggled to find decent documentation on how to get a server up and running for deploying Python web applications from the point of view of someone coming from PHP. The main problems I came across with documentation were:
1) Only showed you how to run the server for a single web application.
2) Only showed you how to configure the app, not the server it was running on.
My preferred workflow for development is by setting up a new VM in VMware Fusion and then forwarding through all requests to that VM via /etc/hosts. This might not be the optimal way to get things up and running, but it works for me.

Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Setup

Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Custom recipe to get OS X 10.11 El Capitan running from scratch, setup applications and developer environment. This is very similar (and currently mostly the same) as my 10.10 Yosemite setup recipe (as found on this gist https://gist.github.com/kevinelliott/0726211d17020a6abc1f). Note that I expect this to change significantly as I install El Capitan several times.

I use this gist to keep track of the important software and steps required to have a functioning system after a semi-annual fresh install. On average, I reinstall each computer from scratch every 6 months, and I do not perform upgrades between distros.

This keeps the system performing at top speeds, clean of trojans, spyware, and ensures that I maintain good organizational practices for my content and backups. I highly recommend this.

You are encouraged to fork this and modify it to your heart's content to match your own needs.

Install MySQL on El Capitan using Homebrew

Install MySQL on OS X El Capitan

Normally the installation of MySQL can be achieved with a single command, which executes a script provided by MacMiniVault : bash <(curl -Ls http://git.io/eUx7rg)

However, at the time of writing the script is not compatible with OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Install MySQL using Homebrew

An alternative to the aforementioned installation script is installing MySQL using Homebrew. This gist assumes you already have Homebrew installed, if not first read the article "Homebrew and El Capitan"

Make sure Homebrew has the latest formulae, so run brew update first

Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL and phpMyAdmin on OS X

This is my take on how to get up and running with NGINX, PHP-FPM, MySQL and phpMyAdmin on OSX Yosemite.

This article is adapted from the original by Jonas Friedmann. Who I just discovered is from Würzburg in Germany. A stonesthrow from where I was born ;)

Xcode

Make sure you have the latest version of XCode installed. Available from the Mac App Store.

Install the Xcode Command Line Tools:

xcode-select --install
