Entry Level professional assistant, Oakland CA 15/hr

Entry level professional assistant 15/hr

I am an engineer and designer. I currently work from home in Oakland and I need an assistant to help with everyday tasks. I have too much to do and I am having trouble keeping up. I am most in need of administrative and organizational help. That's the first thing that goes away when I get overworked, and then the rest of the work becomes more difficult.

I mostly do software development and electronics design. Sometimes this looks like product development or art installations or trade show booths. Sometimes this looks like fiddling with Arduino or paint. Right now I'm doing research into small-scale manufacturing of everyday products like chalk and soap.

If you're interested in the in and outs of engineer/designer or entrepreneurial work, all the better, but it's not required. I'm happy to teach where I am able, to your interests. The more work you can take from me, the more hours/work I can provide for you.

Responsibilities will likely change week to week. I've created an example list below. Everything on this list could be considered entry level, except for basic math, literacy, and computer skills.

  • Workshop/office upkeep. Organizing, cleaning, and labeling [examples follow]
    • Organizing and labeling electronic and workshop parts and tools
  • Bookkeeping, receipt filing (Basic math, assisted with a spreadsheet or accounting program. No experience with the program necessary)
  • Research tasks [examples follow]
    • Comparison shopping for electronic parts
    • Searching and booking rental vehicles
    • Administering delivery logistics for parts
  • List making and organizational skills
  • Soldering? Sure, if you're interested in soldering or learning
  • Shopping (online and local, trips to the local hardware store, searching/researching parts on amazon and ebay, etc)
  • Documenting work for publication (blogs, social media, etc, sometimes for clients, sometimes for self-promotion)
  • Familiarity with online tools/office suites, and good written communication are a plus.
  • You should be able to lift 25 pounds over your head.

You would be working in my home. The work area is mostly separate from living areas, but there's a bit of crossover. I aim to have a casual, comfortable, and effective working environment for myself and you.

I typically work 9AM to 6PM Monday to Friday. I'm currently conceiving this position as about 15 hrs/wk across 2 or 3 days during those hours. The hours can be flexible to accommodate your schedule.

The job pays $15/hr + a transit stipend, no other benefits are provided.

I'm near Rockridge BART.
