We may want to pick something just so that we have a unique identifier
we can use on the interwebs.
Focus: | |
We're mostly coders, so it makes sense that we'd have a focus on comp sci
and programming related books. I don't know that we necessarily need to
stay there, though. There are plenty of other books - fiction and non - that
the group as a whole might be interested in reading and discussing. To that
end, I don't think it's necessary to create an explicit scope.
Chosen books: | |
Books should be freely recommended but carefully selected. Probably a vote
from members indicating which books they would most enjoy discussing (note
that "enjoy reading" and "enjoy discussing" aren't necessarily the same).
Tools: | |
- Real-time discussion: IRC, campfire, holla... something like this.
Also, potentially Skype. We'll be using the real-time tool(s) to handle
actual meetings of the group.
- Asynchronous discussion: Probably some kind of forum or mailing list.
Used for suggesting/voting on books, off-topic conversation, ongoing
discussions, or anything else that wouldn't be carried on over the course
of a normal meeting. | |
- Github account: For code.
Share/extend/enjoy code that other members are working on as we go through
various books. Also a good place to keep any inspired projects, in the event
that we get bit by that bug at some point. |
