UW PCE Ruby Instructor needed

Instructor Needed for the Ruby Programming Certificate Program – University of Washington

The University of Washington Professional & Continuing Education is now hiring a part-time instructor for an evening certificate program in Ruby Programming.

We are looking for an instructor to teach the first course of a series of 3 – Ruby: The Core Language. Please see below course description to get a general sense of the course topics. The Ruby Programming Certificate webpage can also be found at the following link.

Prior teaching experience is helpful, but not required. We’re seeking a professional who has been working with Ruby Programming for several years.

Classes meet three hours, once a week (Thursday evenings), for ten weeks from 6-9pm at our Downtown Seattle location. Instructors receive a salary of $4500 for each course.

Course 1: Ruby: The Core Language The first course introduces fundamental concepts of the Ruby programming language while students begin to build a portfolio of applications on the Rails framework. Through lecture, class discussion and individual and group project work, the class emphasizes the development of ruby engineering best practices.

Topics include:

  • Setting up the development environment
  • The Ruby Way
  • Exception handling
  • Iterators & blocks
  • Regular Expressions and Text Parsing
  • RubyGems
  • Github
  • Test Driven Development (TDD)
  • Working with and contributing to the open-source community

Course 1 will run during the 2016-2017 Academic Year: October 6, 2016 – December 15, 2016, Thursdays, 6-9PM, Downtown Seattle Location
