To Start:
Dirty Goose Martini, straight up - 3 olives, 1 each with pimento, blue cheese, and jalapeno stuffing. At first I
didn't like pepper taste (and I love jalapenos) but it kind of grew on me as I realized over time each olive
gives the drink a different flavor. Unique drink.
Small plate of these sesame green beans with candied walnuts - very simple but really great.
Spicy Tuna Tartare, Sesame–Miso Cones, Shaved Bonito, Tobiko - a couple of these, complimentary...sooo good.
A perfect amount of wasabi. This was the first of several moments of the night that reminded me, its ok to
not overload on ingredients, especially the really strong ones.
Appetizers:
“Tiny Dumplings” Pork Belly, Black Vinegar, Chili Oil, Ginger, Cilantro Leaves - its shoulder and belly ground
up...really, really good. Again, a slight hint of heat from the chili oil. Salty, savory, spicy...excellent.
Squash Soup - can't find it on the menu on the site, but this was easily the best soup of its kind I've ever
tasted, and I'm not a huge fan of squash soup. Creamy and silky. Again, excellent.
Entrees:
Wine: Super Tuscan, Sangiovese/Merlot blend, I believe it was Icario, "Rubi". Delicious, dark plum, nice
tannins...just great. Lauren had a Gruner Vertliner which was nice and crisp, mineral/wet rock, describe
to us by the waiter as a little strange but didn't seem too funky.
“American Style” Kobe Short Ribs, Slow Cooked, Indian Spices, Masoor Dal - ok, seriously, an 'omfg' really
is warranted. If you like the short ribs at Rosa Mexicana, and like Indian style spices, these run circles
around Rosa's. My meager vocabulary prevents me from not repeating myself several times already...but these
were amazing.
Pan Roasted Rockfish, Red Thai Curry Shrimp, Pineapple Sambal - absolutely horrible....ok sorry, just kidding,
I'm just feeling a little too fanboyish, but seriously, this was also excellent. If you like that spicy sweet
red thai curry taste, and love fish, you have to try this.
Desert:
Passion Fruit Cheesecake
Mango Sorbet, Raspberry Coulis: I normally go for chocolate, but love cheesecake, and this was (yes, again)
excellent.
Warm Vahlrona Chocolate Truffle Cake
Espresso Chai Masala Ice Cream: Delicious, not too sweet, but decadent enough. The ice cream was unique
and I'd steal more if I had the chance.
Two cappuccinos to finish things off, and completely full and fairly overloaded off such an amazing dinner,
we left, admiring the beautiful wall/wine rack showcasing various bottles of Krug and other delicacies.
