On Twitter, Justin asked:
Are there books / resources for hippies like me who are interested in minimal living, tiny homes, farming, bicycling?
Here's my answers:
-
The Self-Sufficient Gardener is my bible on gardening. The deep bed method lets you grow about twice as much in the same square footage in a way that doesn't require any tools beyond a spade and fork (and some back-breaking initial labor, natch). How to Grow More Vegetables is also very good.

Country Wisdom and Know-How is this incredible collection of articles on everything from woodlot management to canning and preserving to building fences and barns.
-
How to Build Small Barns & Outbuildings - we had a Morton Building put up for the barn, but only the outer shell; we're building all the insides (stalls, tack room, etc.) ourselves. I also plan to build a small storage shed. So this book's been my guide.

My local ag extension. The folks at the K-State ag extension in Lawrence are great, always willing to answer questions and give pointers. I've also grabbed a ton of little pamphlets from them on stuff like weed control, pasture management, soil testing, etc.
Of course, I've only been at this for two years, so I'm still learning myself! Ask me again in a couple-three years and let's see what else is on this list...
