In my opinion, there is enough payoff in each of these books that it's worth the investment to read them. In a few of these, sometimes the payoff is a single chapter. Even if (perhaps especially if!) you feel that you disagree with a fundamental argument in any of these books, try to force yourself to articulate the best insight that you learned from the book.
