Post-Grad Job Search Action Plan Template

Post-Grad Job Search Action Plan Template

#1: Job Search Plan: Create a schedule & goals

  • Code: 4 hours after lunch Daily
  • Outreach: 1 hour each day in the morning
  • Research: 2 hours each day
  • Networking: 1-2 per week (depends weekly event)
  1. Backwards planning: What is your cut-off for ending the job search? When do you want to receive and sign an offer by?

October 30

  1. Based on what you outlined above, create monthly, weekly, and daily goals in order to reach your big goal.
  • Daily: See above
  • Weekly: Get at least 1 coffee date
  • Monthly: Learn 1 new technology. Have some interviews.
  1. Block out time on your calendar now to adhere to these goals. At the end of each week, assess what worked with the schedule and what didn't so that you can make adjustments as needed and manage your time even more effectively for the following week.

  2. What "barriers" tend to hold you back in the job search? What steps will you take to overcome those "barriers"?

  • Writing cold outreach and cover letters: create templates and update them
  • Fear of interviews: practice everyday to reduce it

#2: Longterm Career Plan: What are your career goals?

  1. Imagine that it's 5 years from now - what have you accomplished during that time? How is your life different? What steps did you take to achieve your goals?

This question is hard to answer because of all the possibilities. However, one thing that I am aiming for during this period is to be working in a company (it could be my own) where I can lead a team and have the liberty of experimenting and creating new ideas or building prototypes. During this period I also plan to be more involved in the tech community and Turing. On the personal side, I see myself married and starting a family. To achieve this goals I plan to work for a company where I can grow my skills, and also by having side projects to learn new languages. I also plan to participate in meetups, make blog posts, and get involved in open source projects.

  1. Create a vision statement for these longterm goals.

See above.

  1. Reference what you outlined in your Flower Exercise -- what preferred level of responsibility do you want to move to? Do you want to start your own company? What kind of work do you see yourself doing longterm? In your first year on the job, what skills do you want to develop to work towards your longterm goals?

During this period I plan to have a high level of responsability. For long term goals see above.

In my first year I wish to improve my coding, presentation, communication, and leadership skills.
