<h3>** Attention Intrepid Java Enthusiasts **</h3>

If you wade through the slush to tomorrow night's meeting, your heroic efforts will not go
unrewarded. We have two talks on cutting edge open-source Java performance monitoring tools!
<p>
First, we'll hear from Lucas Berk, a Red Hatter who works on Java tracing and profiling
support within SystemTap[1]. SystemTap is a dynamic, scriptable kernel-space and user-space
probing system for Linux. It can be used directly by end users, or as a back-end for higher
level performance tools.
<p>
Speaking of tools, Omair Majid, another Red Hatter, will treat us to a second talk. Omair
works on Thermostat, a distributed, modular monitoring and profiling tool for Java. Thermostat gathers statistics from many sources, including SystemTap. After a brief overview of Thermostat, Omair will unveil the brand new plugin API, which allows Java developers to introduce new input (telemetry sources) and output (reporting) capabilities to Thermostat. This is a brand new API that's still not frozen. Feedback on use cases and API design is both welcome and encouraged!

As always we'll spend a few minutes beforehand discussing the latest news from the greater Java ecosystem. Free Times will provide table service so you can purchase meals, snacks, and warm and cold drinks (including the usual $5 local draught beer special).
