With apologies to Shakespeare's Henry V Crispin Day speech
O that we now had here | |
But one ten thousand of those software geeks
That do no work to-day! | |
KING HENRY V | |
What's he that wishes so?
My cousin Prince? No, my fair cousin:
If we are mark'd to brave ice and snow, we are enow
To struggle to our CodeMash; and if to arrive,
The fewer geeks, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one geek more.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my friend, wish not a geek from anywhere
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more, methinks, would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Prince, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this travel,
Let them not depart their warm ice and bacon free homes;
their passport shall be made
We would not eat bacon in that geek’s company
That fears his fellowship to travel with us.
This day is called CodeMash Tuesday
They who braved snow and ice this day, and come safe here
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse them at the name CodeMash Tuesday.
He or she that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is CodeMash Tuesday:'
Then will they show their delayed airline tickets
and rusty cars | |
And say 'These wounds I had on CodeMash Tuesday.'
This story shall the good geek teach their geeklings
And CodeMash Tuesday shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of geeks;
For they to-day that eat their bacon with me
Shall be my sibling; be they ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle their condition:
And geeklings across the land now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their geekhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That ate bacon with us upon CodeMash Tuesday. |
