Proposal for Changes to Robe of Augmentation

Proposal for Replacing the Robe of Augmentation

Step 1: Remove this robe

Step 2: Add an unrandart based on Quicksilver Dragon Scales

Why Dragon Scales?

Let's take stock of the kinds of unrandart armors we currently have. If you ignore what makes them unique, the base armour types are:

Base Armour Type How Many? ER
Robe 6 0
Animal Skin 1 0
Leather 1 4
Troll Leather 1 4
Acid Dragon Scales 1 5
Scale Mail 1 10
Chain Mail 1 15
Plate 1 18
Golden Dragon Scales 1 23
Crystal Plate 1 23
  • That's a lot of robes. - This is probably because there are a lot of book start backgrounds. However, even pure blaster casters frequently wear dragon scale armours by the late/extended game. And robes are unlikely to draw more melee-centric players.
  • Should we also have 6 heavy armors? - Maybe, to support more players, we should also have 6 heavy armor types (we only have three that are plate or above). But I won't go so far as to say that. I could do a little research and figure out what percentage of players end their game wearing robes, light armour, or heavy armour. But I have not yet done that research. I can though, I have ~12,000 morgue files to play with.
  • What armour types have the greatest chance of interesting the most players? - THIS is a good question. I will argue that a really great light dragon scale armour has at least the chance to entice book starts AND a melee dude. So, by this logic, I would say our unrandart armours should be weighted towards having a lot more various kinds of dragon scale armour (and not just the one GDS).

Purposal: Perhaps we could add unrandarts based on Quicksilver, Swamp, and/or Fire Dragon Scales.

The Idea

+3 Quicksilver Dragon Scales
* MR+++
* <chance on hit to fire Quicksilver Bolt at your attacker>

Spell Details

  • The Quicksilver bolt dispells any enchantments on the target.
  • This spell is single target, unlike the purple Draconian version.
  • I will make a new version of the spell that dispells magic, but doesn't do any damage. I think that makes more sense in this context.
  • How often does the Quicksilver Bolt happen? - I think quite often. After all, most enemies won't have anything to dispell. But when this works it will be great fun.
    • The Dragonskin cloak magical defense effect happens 50% of the time you take magical damage.
    • The Warlock's Mirror reflects magical spells between 4.8% and 57.4% of the time, dependent upon your shield skill.
    • Based on those, perhaps this bolt can happen on 25% of melee attacks. (But that's up for debate.)
