Strikers Trading Card Game Rulebook

1. Introduction

Welcome to the Strikers Trading Card Game! In this game, you'll experience the thrill of soccer on a hexagonal field, strategically positioning your players and making key decisions to outscore your opponents. This rulebook will guide you through the gameplay mechanics and provide you with the information you need to get started.

Objective of the Game

The objective of Strikers Trading Card Game is to score more goals than your opponent. By strategically moving your players, making successful passes, and taking accurate shots, you can outmaneuver the opposing team's defense and secure victory.

Components of the Game

To play Strikers Trading Card Game, you'll need the following components:

  • Hexagonal game field
  • Player cards for each team
  • 20-sided dice
  • Shot charts for each player
  • Endurance markers
  • Rulebook

Now that you have an overview of the game, let's dive into the game setup and learn how to get started!

2. Game Setup

Before you kick off a game of Strikers Trading Card Game, you need to set up the game field and prepare the player cards. Follow these steps to get started:

Field Setup

The game is played on a rectangular hexagon-based field measuring 9 hexagons wide and 13 hexagons long. The hexagons create a symmetrical and realistic soccer field layout.

Player Cards

Each player builds their team by selecting player cards from a pool of local club brands and national teams. A complete team consists of 11 players, distributed as follows:

  • 4 Defensive Players (DEF): These players specialize in defending and protecting the goal.
  • 1 Goalkeeper (GK): The last line of defense, the goalkeeper is responsible for stopping shots and keeping the opponent from scoring.
  • 3 Midfielders (MID): Midfielders play a versatile role, contributing to both defense and offense.
  • 3 Forwards (FWD): Forwards focus on attacking and scoring goals.

Attributes and Stats

Each player card includes the following attributes and stats:

  • Endurance: Represents the player's energy level, affecting movement and performance.
  • Speed: Reflects the player's agility and quickness on the field.
  • Shot Charts: Different shot charts for each player determine the outcomes of their shots.
  • Control: Influences the player's ability to keep possession of the ball.
  • Salary: The cost of each player card to compose your team's roster.

Team Composition and Salary Cap

Assemble your team by selecting player cards that cover all the necessary positions while managing your salary cap. Consider each player's attributes, stats, and playing style to create a well-balanced team that suits your strategy.

To add an extra layer of strategy, Strikers Trading Card Game includes a salary cap. Each player card has a salary associated with it, representing the cost of acquiring that player. When building your team, you must stay within the designated salary cap, which sets a limit on the total combined salaries of the players in your roster.

Ensure you have the required number of players for each position: 4 defensive players, 1 goalkeeper, 3 midfielders, and 3 forwards. Make thoughtful decisions, balancing player abilities, salaries, and team composition, to create a competitive squad that fits within your salary cap.

By considering the salary cap, you'll need to make strategic choices and find the right balance between star players and supporting cast, maximizing your team's potential while staying within budget.

Now that you have an understanding of the game setup, team composition, and salary cap, let's move on to the player turns and learn how to play the game!

3. Player Turns

During Strikers Trading Card Game, players take turns controlling their team and making strategic decisions. Each player turn consists of three main actions: Move, Pass, and Shoot. You can use up to 6 actions per turn, and you can perform them in any order. However, no player can perform the same action (move/pass/shoot) more than once per turn.

Move

On your turn, you can move your players on the field. Each player can move up to one space per turn, allowing you to strategically position your players and create better passing or shooting opportunities. However, there are certain rules to follow when it comes to movement:

  • Occupied Spaces: You cannot move a player to a space occupied by another player from your own team. You must find unoccupied spaces for movement.

  • Contested Spaces: If you attempt to move a player into a space occupied by an opposing player, it becomes a contested space. In this case, a roll for possession is triggered to determine which player gains control of the ball.

Pass

Passing allows you to move the ball to a teammate in a different location on the field. You can attempt multiple passes during your turn, as long as no player performs the same action more than once. Passing requires careful consideration of player positions and opponent's defenses. Choose your passing targets wisely to maximize your team's chances of maintaining possession or creating scoring opportunities.

Shoot

Shooting involves taking a shot at the goal to score. You can attempt multiple shots during your turn, as long as no player performs the same action more than once. Shooting requires calculating the shooting player's stats, such as shooting skill, control, and speed, and consulting their shot chart to determine the outcome. Choose the right moment to take a shot and aim for the goal to secure valuable points for your team.

Now that you understand the player turns and the available actions, you're ready to delve deeper into the mechanics of passing and shooting. Let's explore these aspects in the next sections!

4. Passing Mechanics

Passing plays a crucial role in moving the ball and creating scoring opportunities in Strikers Trading Card Game. Here's how passing mechanics work:

  • Passing Line: When attempting to pass the ball, you must do so in a straight line from the space the player with the ball is currently in. The passing line represents the trajectory of the pass, and it cannot bend unless modified by a specific event card.

  • Unoccupied Spaces: You can only pass the ball to unoccupied spaces along the passing line. The target space must be free from any players, either from your team or the opposing team.

  • Contested Pass: If a player from the opposing team is positioned in the passing line, the pass becomes contested. In this case, a possession roll is triggered to determine whether the pass is successful or intercepted. Each player involved in the contest adds their control value to a 20-sided die roll, with the player with the higher modified roll winning possession.

5. Shooting Mechanics

Scoring goals is the ultimate objective in Strikers Trading Card Game. Here's how shooting mechanics work:

  • Shooting Line: When taking a shot, you aim for the goal in a straight line from the shooter's current position. The shooting line represents the trajectory of the shot, and it cannot bend unless modified by a specific event card.

  • Target Line Defense: The defending team can position players along the shooting line to defend the goal. The defense scores of these players are used to calculate the shooting difficulty.

  • Shooting Difficulty: The shooting player rolls a 20-sided die and subtracts the sum of defense scores of all the players positioned on the target line from the roll result. The shooting difficulty determines the outcome of the shot, ranging from a miss to a goal, based on the result obtained.

Now that you understand the passing and shooting mechanics, you're ready to apply these rules during gameplay to create successful passes and score goals. Let's move on to other aspects of the game!

6. Possession and Stealing

Possession battles are common in soccer, and they play a significant role in Strikers Trading Card Game. Here's how possession and stealing are handled:

  • Possession Rules: The player in control of the ball is said to have possession. If a player attempts to enter the space of an opposing player, a roll for possession is triggered. The roll result, combined with the player's control score, determines whether the player retains possession.

  • Attempting to Steal: If a player wants to steal the ball from an opponent, they must make a possession roll against the opponent's possession roll. The player with the higher modified roll wins possession.
