"reason": "Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt is a corporate-backed denier of science nominated to run the Environmental Protection Agency, an agency who employs thousands of scientists and engineers. In 2014 The New York Times reported on a letter written on Pruitt’s letterhead and signed by him claiming the agency overestimated air pollution from natural gas drilling. The letter was actually written by lawyers for Devon Energy, one of Oklahoma’s largest oil and gas companies. \n\nScott Pruitt calls himself “a leading advocate against the EPA’s activist agenda” and has spent spent much of his focus as attorney general fighting the very agency he is being nominated to lead. He is currently engaged in a lawsuit against the EPA over Obama’s Clean Power Plan which is designed to reduce pollution from the electricity sector. “Scott Pruitt has a record of attacking the environmental protections that EPA is charged with enforcing. He has built his political career by trying to undermine EPA’s mission of environmental protection,” said Fred Krupp, President of the Environmental Defense Fund. \n\nScott Pruitt’s confirmation hearing is on January 18th with the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.",
